This island is located about 30 KM north of Isla Mujeres (Women Island).
The island lenght is 8.75 KM and 700 meters in its widest area.
In the past was known as "The birds island" and still now days, you will be impressed of the thousand of them that you can see.
Scientist have found more of 157 species of birds living in this island.
Contoy island is surrounded by sea currents of gulf of Mexico, so as currents of the carubean sea, this makes the waters of this island very rich on nutrients and plankton attracting this the big and small fish, the sea turtles and mantas, big chances are you will see them.
This island is an ecotourism destination, only 200 visitors a-day are allowed and a few operators authorized.
